OUR CHICKENS

We care deeply about the welfare of our birds, which is why we raise our chickens to the highest standards of care.

Our farm and our chickens are required to meet the same standards for food safety as all commercially produced chickens in Ontario. This means that our customers take advantage of both small flock size as well as rigorous standards of food production.

WHY PASTURE RAISED?

As part of the Chicken Farmers of Ontario Artisanal Chicken Program we raise our flocks in pasture. Different from in-barn farming, pasture-raised birds are able to roam freely and therefore have a diverse diet of outdoor elements. As a result, pasture-raised chicken tends to be higher in Vitamins A & E, lower in calories and higher in omega fats. Our birds spend their days exploring the enriching enviroment we have created for them.

Happy Chickens = Yummier Meat!

ABOUT OUR BIRDS

We source our day-old chicks from local hatcheries that supply Cobb and Ross breeds. Our chicks are raised in-barn for the first three weeks to establish the flock health and safety from the outdoor elements. Once they reach a hearty size and are fully feathered, they are released into our secure pasture to free roam and graze while still being offered protected shelter when needed. White Rock chickens are extremely hearty and do well in all weather which makes them ideal to grow on our farm in Southern Ontario.

HAPPY & SAFE IN THE BARN FOR THE FIRST 3 WEEKS

This allows them to establish flock health and become strong enough to sustain life in the pasture.

White Rock is an American breed of domestic chicken. It was first seen in Massachusetts in the nineteenth century, and for much of the early twentieth century was the most widely kept chicken breed in the United States. It is a dual-purpose chicken, raised both for its meat and for eggs.

FREE TO ROAM

At approximately 3 weeks of age, they are moved to pasture to roam freely and graze. Grains and water are still provided and shelter is always available. They are monitored closely to ensure they are safe and happy at all times.
